Pixel Cup Soccer is a multi-platform retro style soccer game. A dynamic arcade game with a fast paced gameplay, just the fun part of soccer! The game has great pixel art graphics like the games from the 90’s, evoking nostalgia!
The game controls are very simple: You have a directional control to move the player and only two buttons to shoot and pass, or switch player and tackle, depending on whether you are attacking (in possession of the ball) or defending. You can even shoot a curved ball if you press up or down after shooting. A comprehensive in-game Sills Guide is included into the Practice Mode option in the main menu.
The music transports you back to the 90’s, featuring awesome beats, and sound effects generated with real Spectrum, Commodore, MSX2, and ATARI machines. What really sets Pixel Cup Soccer apart from other soccer games is the exiting feel of the classic arcade games coupled with the fun and depth of modern games, bringing the fun of soccer to a wider audience.
“We want Pixel Cup Soccer to be the best retro arcade style soccer game! We wanted to develop a dynamic arcade game with a fast paced gameplay and simple controls, a game to be easy to just pick up and enjoy. There are not many games like this on the market!” - Fernando Sansberro, Director at Batovi Games Studio.
The inspiration for the game was to be a modern version of the soccer games from the 90’s! We feel the need to play an old school soccer game with great pixel art, a simple and challenging gameplay and with an awesome audio. We found that there was no game in the market that completely fullfilled our needs as players, so we decided to develop our own retro soccer game, inspired by the games we played, such as International Superstar Soccer and Nintendo World Cup!
The first incarnation of Pixel Cup Soccer was called Garra Fútbol. “Garra” is the Spanish for claw, meaning vigorous resolution, in our local speak, and “Fútbol” is the Spanish for, well... Football (Soccer). This version of the game was launched just before the South Africa 2010 World Cup for the One Laptop Per Child program computers in Uruguay, reaching a mindblowing 500.000 installations, in a country of 3.4 million people. The second incarnation of Pixel Cup Soccer was developed for iOS, Android, and PC, and launched just before the Brazil 2014 World Cup. This version was warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic community. However, many of them wanted more, much more out if it. So we worked hard based on tons of user feedback to provide the ultimate arcade retro style soccer experience! Pixel Cup Soccer 16 (iOS and tvOS) is a great evolution from its previous version.
Pixel Cup Soccer 17, currently available on Steam Early Access (PC, Mac, Linux), will continue to incorporate highly demanded features such as a Teams Editor and Online Multiplayer capabilities. Pixel Cup Soccer 17 will be also available on iOS, tvOS, Android, and other platforms.
